Band Biography

Scott Pine and the Conifers were conceived when three high school students discovered Billy Weber’s affinity for songwriting during a coffee-house performance at Liberty High School in Pennsylvania, where Billy taught English and Mike DeCrosta (guitar), Zack Biro (drums) and Erik Kelechava (bass) attended. Of the three, Mike had Billy as a teacher and was semi-familiar with his musical interests, having heard his musical take on Wallace Stevens’ poem “Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird” during class. At the coffee-house, Billy performed “Tableau Love” to a delightfully surprised crowd of mostly high-school students, of whom Billy was only a few years their elder. Soon after Billy was invited to play at a handful of local shows and the future Conifers discussed forming a band. In 2008, Scott Pine and the Conifers formed and began performing shows at the Wildflower Café in Bethlehem, PA. Over time the band has evolved from a group of musicians backing up Weber on his slightly quirky but undeniably catchy pop-tunes to a true band which takes part in the composition of each song and can be compared stylistically to Death Cab for Cutie, Wilco and The Killers. The band independently released “Kissing in Brackets” on November 30, 2011.

Travis Dewitz Portrait 150x150 Photograph

My name is Travis Dewitz and I am from Eau Claire, Wisconsin. I love photography. It lightens my heart, fills my soul, and allows me to capture life the way that I see it. I have always looked at designs and layouts with a keen eye and deep appreciation for the best way to evoke details. I am very technically driven; I need to know the intricate details of everything. I feel you can’t fully understand something without know all the fine details. ~ read more about me.

I. Love. Photography. I love it. It lightens my heart, fills my soul, and allows me to capture life the way that I see it. I constantly yearn to show life in a way that hasn’t been seen before, to bring images to people in a fresh and innovative way. My favorite focus in photography, my specialty I guess you would say, is Railroad Photography & Art. Something about the rumbling of these great, big, beautiful machines. The way they shake the earth beneath you as they rumble by, how they invade your chest and you can feel the rumble inside you. The plumes of heat on a hot day represented in a heat wave. Snaking through a western valley, void of trees or any other distracting element. Just the train, by itself, in it’s own inexplicable beauty and power. From the time I was a child, they have captured my imagination. I’ve recently gotten into portraiture a bit, and I want to bring some of my experiences with trains to that arena. To capture the power of a person, the sadness, loneliness, omniscience, pride, love, & carefree spirit in a way that hasn’t been done before. I want people to look at themselves in a photograph I have taken, and see a side of themselves that they think no one else has ever seen. Dewitz Photography is all about capturing a moment in a way that has never been seen before, capturing a beauty that some never knew was even there.
